I had a flat and didn't do that but I did have the dealer replace the tire so I filed a claim after the fact and the company covered it (fortumately).
If someone at your dealer saw your damaged windshield, you might try having them call the insurance company and explain the situation. Since the dealer sells the product, the insurance company may listen to the dealer and extend your coverage after the fact.

My Finance rep. (The guy who sold me the policy to start with) at the dealer step up on this one, he contacted the insurance company and discussed the issue with them. The insurance company reconsidered the claim and accepted to pay for the windshield invoice from Safelite.
Happy ending on this one and good job BMW of Austin!!! So far I'm pleased with the level of customer service I've been getting from them.
