So you need to have glass coverage from insurance company? or is it included by default.
I think that depends on the insurance company, check your policy and see if it is included. I think its an option that you can decline. Glass coverage has been on my cars as long as I can remember.

In the US, some states (like MA) require glass coverage to be included. I do believe that there's a frequency issue, at least here in MA, which states that a frequency of replacement greater than every X number of years would void the coverage. Other states allow glass coverage as an option, and it probably shaves a little off the premium.

My Ride: I have a 2007 Black Sapphire BMW 530i with SMG. It has the auburn interior, has PDC, Sports Package, Premium Package, rear automatic sunshades with manual side sunshades, 35% black tint, Upgraded angeleyes from Angelibrights, and Logic 7 Sound System

I was also quoted around 1200 by the dealership. The insurance will cover the crack if it is more than 12 cm, as was told to me by State Farm Representative. Also, they found a guy who would do it for 600 bucks and if i chose to do it with dealership, i would also have to pay the rest out of my pocket. Instead, I found a different place where i got the thing replaced for 250 and it is non-oem, but my rain sensors have no problem. I am happy I only payed 250 and not a ridiculous 1200!!!!!!! It all depends on the place where you get your windshield installed and how they can warantee there work.

Do you have to pay the deductible too?

After reading this thread, I just lowered my comprehensive insurance to a $50 deductible. I checked with my agent (Allstate) and they indicated that they would provide BMW OEM glass under my 'comprehensive' policy. Also lowing the deductible from $250 to $50 was only about $22 more a year. Time to get rid of that door ding!

Click and see: Windshield Cracked

I had to have mine replaced. Luckily the insurance company hooked me up with a local repair guy who used OEM glass. I paid $95 out of pocket. The guy did an excellent job and everything works....no problems with rain sensors, etc... I don't remember if my car came with the solar glass or not but my "Fast Track" toll road responder quit working after the install so I had to relocate it to the small area near the rearview mirror which appears to not be coated.
