Saw 2 cracks. One on the top and the other at the bottom. They are growing bigger by the hour and are headed towards each other.

Has anyone installed aftermarket windsheild? Dealer puts the figure around $1300.

I called my insurance and my deductible is $1K, so that would make me pay almost all the cost.

Happened to me too...sometime over the weekend. And just after my warranty expired.

Apparently, there is an option to 'repair' the cracked glass. They put some kind of an adhesive on the crack. Has anyone got their windshield repaired? A cursory phone call to my dealer approximated the cost in the range of $800-$1K.

That seems high - do you have the Heads up Display? As for deductible on my policy everything is $500 but my insurance policy has a $100 deductible for glass. I thought a lower deductible for glass was sort of "standard". You should check that on yours!

As for repair, [small] chips can repaired ..... but cracks

You really don't need the HUD windshield even if you have the HUD. A reg windshield will work--according to Corvette forums.

Other option is to have an indy shop locate a windshield at junk yard. They should guarantee installation against cracks during installation. Save $$ with used.

Deductibles for glass must vary state by state. In Massachusetts there's no deductible for glass. You can ask for a $100.00 deductible but that only saves you a couple of dollars per year and I don't know anyone who has requested it.

I concur with the above statement that cracks need to be replaced.

Did something hit it, or did it crack by itself?

Stress fractures are a problem with the E60 (at least with the M5). Mine cracked overnight, just sitting in the garage. The dealer checked using a pen (run a pen along the crack, if it doesn't catch on anything, then nothing hit it), and then replaced it for free under warranty.

My windshield randomly cracked one day. Insurance waived the deductable in FL. Got them to use a OEM windshield. They said the aftermarket ones are a little harder to install because the edges are thin.?

FWIW -- I had a stone chip that morphed into a major crack over a period of 8-10 months. My car has no HUD, but does have the rain sensor in the rear view mirror.

I replaced the OEM windshield a month ago with an aftermarket one for $315 -- done in an hour or so in my driveway. All stickers, including the EZ Tag transponder were moved to the new glass. So far so good -- no wind noise or leaks. My SA recommended a glass company, saying they were half the cost of having the dealer do it. Good luck.
