My Ride: 2010(60) BMW 520d SE, Manual, In Sophisto Grey with Cream/Black Interior and Piano Black trim
I'm having a few issues with the wipers on my per-LCI e60, at 'full whack' they are starting to knock into the A-pillar on the passenger side of the windscreen (RHD vehicle) at the very top corner of the windscreen. Does this mean that they are out of alignment?
They are starting to smear the windscreen quite badly in persistant weather. I ensured that the windscreen was wax free and cleaned it with vinegar based solution, same for the wipers and still the prob persisits. They tend to leave the screen patchy, leading me to believe that there is still some residue/oil based substance on there. What do you recommend to give the windscreen a really deep clean? Is it worth changing the wipers and if so, what brand do you guys recommend? Stick with BMW parts, or are such as Bosch any good?

It does sound like something has gone out of alignment with your car's wiper arms - or maybe they've loosened up. Check for worn or loose joints and fasteners.
As for cleaning the glass - some oily residues can be difficult to remove and may require several applications - your vinegar / water approach is fine. No need to purchase fancy and often over-priced specialty glass cleaners for automotive glass. However, if it isn't doing the trick, try a commercial / home cleaner with ammonia (we call it Windex on this side of the pond). But careful - over-spray ammonia will remove wax from your car's body. Also, try paper towels instead of your auto towels or microfiber rags. Sometimes, even when washed, waxy build-up remains on those.
As for wipers, if you find the BMW-Parts department refills are too pricey I hear the Bosch Icons are a good fit and suitable (maybe even identical) blade. However, when I've seen them in the auto parts retailers the attachment points don't look quite the same - but I suppose they fit. Perhaps someone who has purchased and installed them would do us the favor of a review and picture!
