Isn't Castrol the standard fill oil coming out of the factory in all BMWs?

It will work ok but isnt an oil for turbo deisels so wont have the cleaning adatives added.

This is the correct Castrol edge oil http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Castrol-Edge-Turbo-D...id=p3286.c0.m14

You can get it for the same price from halfords so would save on the postage.

I dont think it is I believe the running in oil is a Fuch product although castrol is recommended after that.

I thought I saw an ad on TV and in print a few years back from Castrol saying that Castrol is the standard fill oil for BMWs at the factory... Maybe my memory is failing me...

Funny thing is my main dealer showed me the exact same oil as the one on ebay(no turbo diesel written on it) and said the 'powerflow' was the one to get as it was a BMW exclusive,it's never a easy answer!

hi

i have recently bought some oil for my car 2005 525d, and three deallers told me something differement.

they all said that mobile one is the oil that they use in their services, but they couldnt agree on the grade, from the previous services on my car the have used 0-30 mobile one.

having said that once when i was at the dealers the mobile one lorry pulled up and the dealer took a delivery of 3 pallets of mobile oil engine oil, so the deff the one they use.

hope this helps, maybe it better for you to go to the dealers find what they say and then shop around, for a 525 you need about 8.5 litres, form the dealer could cost about ?120 +

Thank's for the reply, look's like the dealer's can't give anybody a clear answer!I know the grade is 0w 30 and on my oil filler cap is say's Castrol is the recomended oil, look's like the powerflo version is the one my dealer use's(i'm sure it's the same stuff as the Turbo diesel version of the same oil only rebranded for BMW),I only wanted it to keep for topping up until my next service,Castrol have a option on there website which tell's you exactly which oil to go for as soon as you put your car reg detail's in and it was the same one Dandle came up with so i'm gonna go with that.

Go only for oils that are mentioned in the manual of your car (BMW Longlife (LL) -04).

LL -04 0W 30 known brands doesn't make too much difference (Castrol, Shell, Exxon etc.),
but Mobil 1 is the very best of oils by numerous tests.

Remember to always change the oil filter as well!
