Like many others, when I hit any kind of bump...even the smallest little one...I get a lot amount of creaks, pops, & rattles coming from the black plastic area around the A/C, radio, and CD/DVD section. You can hear what I'm talking about by simply pressing on the joints of any of those plastic pieces there. Anyway, I wonder if these noises will decrease significantly when I get rid of my RFT tires. The RFTs are very rigid and this certainly doesn't help things at all. Did anyone notice a reduction of creaks/rattles when they got rid of the RFTs?

BTW...while I'm kinda on the subject, I've heard MANY people say they have door seal creaks...as many as I have coming from the AC/radio/CD area, I haven't had a single issue with door seal areas.

AND, the creaks/pops I was getting from windshield when I went over humps, was eliminated by the dealer...they lubricated the windshield seal from inside the car.

Lastly...I must say that other the creaks/pops/rattles around the area described, I absolutely LOVE my car... <== that's a cool little dude.

removing the runflats will definatly give you a smoother ride, weither that will sort out your creaks/rattles i dont know, but if i was a betting man i would say yes it will certanly help.

Dr,

naive question may be, but do you know if you can fit non RF's to the standard M Sport alloys in the UK? Will it cause any FTM issues? I'v just done the math and it would save me a fortune, allow me to get the spare kit an take the family out for a meal - Picture of car below

People with either run-flat tires and non run-flat tires have had the squeaking door seals. Here is a thread discussing this issue: http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=...amp;hl=vaseline

Also, you can put non run-flat tires on the same wheels and it will not cause any FTM issues.

Yes...changing out the RFT's to non-RFT's will defineatly make driving a whole new pleasurable experience. A less expensive alternative you may want to try is adjusting the air pressure in each tire to the lower end of the acceptable scale (Check your owners manual). You'll lose a little in handling and MPG but the ride WILL be smoother.

i have 2 E60's 1 with 18" M sport alloys and 1 with 19" M sport alloys, the 18" wheels had runflats on and i changed them to normal tyres with no problems, the 19" came with normal tyres, no where on the OEM BMW wheels does it say that it is a run flat wheel or "only fit run flat tyres", so i would say it is perfectly safe and ok to do so, if it was a problem it would state on the alloys themselves....only for RFT's

go for it, best mod you can do, the ride and comfort will increase hugly.

I'm not really asking whether or not RFT give a better, quieter, more comfy ride....it is a given that they do indeed. I'm specifically interested in whether or not "normal" tires with their softer/smoother ride, helps reduce any of the creaks/rattles that these cars all seem to have.

I would think switching to non run flats the ride would be smoother. Your car would be less jarring on roads reducing rattles. I have non run flats and I have no rattles. It may be helpful to make sure everything in your fold down tool kit is secure and if there is a spare or jack or anything in the space where a spare would go is secure.
Check your door pockets, your console, and glove box for anything loose. If you have fold down seats ensure that they are fully locked in the upright position. You may also want to check the armrest in the middle of the back seat to see if anything is loose in there.

To me the swith to non run flats is a no brainer. It cannot hurt the rattles and will also cost less.

You mean like when you hit a bump in the road, you don't get any creak/pop noises from the black plastic area around the AC/radio/CD? I get a ton...they completely go away after the bump, but I definitely get them when I hit a bump. I know that's where it's coming from because I can press on the seams in that area and get the same creak/pop noise.

why not remove the CCC unit and refit it with a drop of silicone (fine bead) around the edges, it only takes a few mins to pop the ccc out and all the trim, that should fix any tight tollerance issues. give it a sort of cusion if its a tight fit?
