In answer to an earlier post about this, I found myself in a large empty car park yesterday and tried pressing the button to open the boot (trunk) when driving at 10mph (also tried at 20 mph).
The boot did not open, so presuming all country specifications are the same as mine, you can forget doing the James Bond stuff on the "freeway"! Regards, |

Another test I would love someone else to try is, will a car go into Reverse gear when going at speeds in forward. This is an accident that is bound to hit me sooner or later because the 6th in my car is where the Reverse is in my wife's car. - I drive both almost equally.

My wife is driving my previous pride and joy until the E60 claimed that title.

For the older Brits:
If you remember the Vanden Plas 4 litre R (with the Rolls Royce engine). This had a 3 speed Auto (it was the early 60's after all). In my younger days, I was tearing along at 84mph in second (i.e. flat out) and decided to change into top (Didn't believe in "D" position in those days). The column change baulked, so I pressed the little chrome button on the end and gave it a good tug. Of course, it went straight through Drive, straight through Neutral and into Reverse! The thing went in as well. Luckily for me, the roads were damp, so all that happened was the back wheels locked up. Of course, I had to swing some opposite lock on the steering with one hand (bearing in mind that the wheel was huge) whilst tugging the gear lever in the opposite direction with the other. The car seemed to take this abuse as if it were normal, and was still running well some 6 years later. Bruce, Going for 6th where there is only Reverse would set off a unique alarm. It sounds like lots of gears grating at high speed, accompanied by a vibrating alarm on the gear lever. this is standard on most manual cars, just a a reminder not to do it again :D :D :D Mike |

Does it not require you to push down or pull up on the stick to get into reverse? I know older Audi Requires you to push down to get into R where 6th is... and the previous generation TT I think required you to pull up. BMWs are all to the left of first where you have to really slap it over... which is exactly what I like. |
