yes you can paint it...AFAIK recall the yellow reflector was add;d due to DOT standards
Correct. And it's our own fault. US bound BMWs have always had orange parking light lenses in the headlight assemblies due to DOT regs. We consequently have begged for clear corners for years. BMW thought "we'll teach those Americans" and gave us those ugly side markers when finally giving us the clear corners.

At least they made it simple enough to fix.

Yeah yeah..Yours is stock though, it's a mod to us which definitely makes it pic worthy...

Nothing like a mod to make it the way it was before and the way it should have stayed in the first place!

I just popped mine out and painted them myself with a spray paint can filled with my color of paint. I also used a spray can of clear coat that I applied after the base coat was finished. You can buy these spray cans from several websites for about $35 total for both the clear coat and the base coat. Just google aerosal auto paint.

You just have to make sure there is no dust or crap floating in the air otherwise it creates small bubbles/marks in the paint (This is nearly impossible to avoid unless you have a paint booth or hood). You can get some body shop grade sand paper and wet sand those dust marks out and paint another coat after you do this. That is what I had to do. It took me about 2 days of screwing with till I got it perfect.

4 total base coats + 3 wet coats of clear coat was what it took me. The finished product looks just as good as a body shop. Small parts can be easily done like this, but bigger parts is a whole different ball game. Body shop for those.

This may be too much for people to mess with, but I kind of enjoyed doing it. It sounds more of a pain that is actually was. The key to getting the smooth perfect finish is to spray several base coats very lightly until the reflectors are covered well enough. This prevents the paint from running and really creating a mess. The sand paper is also key to removing any imperfections that do happen.

All though my photos were taken before I did this mod.

Anyway, food for thought...
