I parked next to an M5 the other day in north London, and realised that i was looking up at his lower window sill.. i thought it was just the way my seat was very low down in my car.. but when i stepped out of my 535d Sport, and closed the door, i realised that my wing mirror was a good inch and a half lower then the M5 parked next to me on a level ground car park..
I walked to the front, and looked at both of them sat there along side one another, and i noticed the door handles and arches sit lower all the way back.. and when i stood between the M5 and my car i placed my left hand on my door handle, and my right hand on his door handle.. it was definatly a big difference..

Why does my car ride lower than the M5 when i have M Tech Model with 19" wheels, and same tyres.. it makes no sence to me.. i thought the M5 and the 535 Sport had the same springs and brakes.. i know they use the same brake pads, as i have had to replace them once already.. and it takes the M5 pads.. which also makes me wonder if i can fit the M5 Drilled and Groved Discs to my 535d too??

If anybody can help with my questions.. please reply..

Sorry it's long winded

Yes good question Mike. i have wondered this too. i also have a 535d Sport. the M5 i have realised is a very tall car indeed !!

By the way - this topic should be in E60 discussions not here. Shall we request it to be moved?

I've had quite a few people ask me if my stock 530i has been lowered. I don't have the M tech package or the sport suspension, and I haven't done anything to my springs or shocks either. I don't know what the deal is, are some just lower than others?

I looked into this, and it was way expensive. I think the bell housings from the M5 were required as well as new disks and calipers (the suprising part). I was cheaper getting AP 6 pots, and believe me they are way better than the M5's brakes - ask anyone who has been in my 535d at the nurburgring

Where are you based? AP will only sell that kit in the UK at the moment.

The 550/545 Sports sit lower than the M5 as well. This was noted by member wolverine, who has a M5, a while back.

I think that the diference could be due that the M-Tech package has 25.7" of overall tire diameter and the M5 has 27".

If you look, you will find that the sidewall profile on the tyres on an M5 with 166 19" wheels is quite tall, not sure maybe 40's so this might make it sit higher??

yes the m5 has higher aspect tires than sport e60's.
therefore, larger rolling diameter.
m5 fender gap also seems bigger than sport e60's too.
add these things up and it makes sense that m5 is higher.

i think stock m5's looks like an suv compared to sport e60's.

Yes I noticed this during a recent trip to the Nurburgring with my mate in his M5. His certainly looked taller at the front and I wondered whether he had a deeper front spoiler. Whatever its got i love the way it looks.

Steve, I will certainly try and beg a ride in your M3 next time I see you at the Ring. Have fun with it!
