Coming from more 'responsive' vehicle M3 I can empathize. Dinans offers a lightened flywheel as wheel as ECU and intake mods. Go to www.diffsonline.com if you want a LSD and final drive change. These mods will liven up your vehicle somewhat. Or if you don't mind go for an M5 if you don't mind the MPG penalty.

I COMPLETELY AGREE! I have an '08 550i 6-speed and the first thing I did was purchase the full line of Dinan engine performance mods (intake, chip, exhaust, throttle body) I still feel my Dinan 540 e39 with autospeed-tronic was faster and more invigorating.
And invigorating is what I was looking for from this car.
On another note, how is the feeling when you sift gears. Should it be effortless going though the gear speeds or should it require a little *umf*?

I think you get so much more bang for your buck buying a used M5 versus modding the 550i. And the gas mileage issue is a weak argument - you already are driving a $70,000 machine and so the extra $75 per month on gasoline is a rounding error.
Go get the M3 or M5.

With ESS you don;t have to send them your ECU if you have a shop locally that can do the software upgrade. Here in SoCal we are lucky enough to have RPI locally that is the exclusive ESS vendor/tuner in Cali, they do a great job and it doesn't take that long.
