Why doesn't this button "work"

Had snow in my part of the UK today, so temperature this morning was below 4 degrees. Tried the Max button and it continued to work normally. Obviously as passan mentioned the compressor was probably not functioning fully due to being below 4 degrees. The green Max button LED was on and fans were on full. So its works.
IMU,
Still not sure why your residual heat function does not work. As KAF's E60 is 2004 build and mine is 2003 we can only assume the 2005 builds have it switched off.

It is the parked-car heating option which can release residual heat into the cabin after stopping the engine, not fitted as standard on UK cars but a retrofit may be available soon through Webasto
I'll try it next time i'm out in the car.

When I look at the part for independent heater on Real.oem, it says not available for my car

The functons of the REST button which operates the residual heat system is described in the manual. AFAIK this will only work under certain conditions. There has to be a sufficient charge to the battery, a certain exterior temperature, and thirdly; the engine has to be hot.

I use it quite often. It is great when it is cold out and you need to make a quick trip somewhere. The engine has to be warm for it to work, and the ignition is off, in fact you can do it with the key out.
Just press the rest button and get out, and it will keep the interior warm. I don't know how long it lasts, however. It's good for a quick in and out, such as at the videostore. Works great with a warm V8

And I forgot to add.. I would guess that diesels are less than perfect with this kind of system, as they traditionally produce less excess heat - that might explain why some out there find enabling this feature hard on their car.

IMU, I think you are getting the residual heat function mixed up with the auxiliary heater. The handbook refers to the auxiliary heater ("if fitted" - !) but my early enquiries drew a blank for availability of it in the UK. I don't think that the E60 has the fuelled heater as standard like the E39 did, so even if you can get one, I think you are looking at installing the full heater, not just the remote. ![Angry](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/angry.gif)

Yes you're right, sorry for my

Nevertheless, my REST button light doesn't come on. Does yours?

In what country did the FUEL powered, independent heater come as standard? Nunavut? The northernmost parts of Greenland?
I cannot believe it has ever been standard on any BMW vehicle. But, sure, prove me wrong
