Why does my 520d struggle on gradients, even on motorways?

My Ride: BMW E61 520D 2007

Motorway, around 5.5 l/100 km.
Mixed traffic with a lot of short trips 7.3 l/100km.
This is with a manual E61 520D.

OBC SHOWS 54MPG MOTORWAY & 41 CITY. BRIM TO BRIM EXCERCISE SHOW OBC TO BE 16% OPTIMISTIC I.E REAL FIGURES ARE 46/35- STILL NOT BAD FOR A BIG CAR. If you have a MY '08 with the M57D20TU engine, the rpm's to use are between 1750 ? 2500.
Then the engine gives out its 350 Nm and no hills nor nothing will stop the car.

Very happy with mine, with auto transmission.

That's much better than my E60 and your car is a bit heavier. Must be something wrong with mine. One mechanik said I might need to change the lambda (oxygen) sensor.
