Studied enough classics in my olden times. Can't remember much, but still recognise the rhythm and a few words (plus, to be honest, your name and andri0tis are a fair giveaway)
now i am not really sure if you understood what katheikia said

Neither am I - but I am reasonably confident that my definition of staggered wheels is correct!

I suppose to put the power to the ground, although a Limited Slip Diff would probably work better. The 530 doesn't have staggered fitment.
Nor do the european versions of the 550i and 540i or any other model.

The 550i comes standard with 225/50R17 all around.

A question of looks.

Why does the 550 have staggered wheels? Also does the 530 have them? Just curious.
They are stagerred to induce understeer. The car has too much power. M3s and M5s are the same.

With front wheels actually larger than stock? And the difference between front and rear less than 10%? I am not sure...

Plus, it has the same power in Europe... where people are probably more used to FWD than in the US.

Staggered wheels are only good for high power engines.
For the 520i & 525i there no point haveing them cos it just too low hp and it will be a waste & cost more on petor too, unless you boost up the hp.
For hight HP you got to have them or the car will not grip that much on cornering
But it good for 1 thing on low HP engines, It looks good from the back view
