And this thing has good brakes and it has to haul down 5400 pounds. What's the deal? BMW designed this thing from the ground up. Brakes included. Why no dust?

Rejex.
When the wheels are totally clean, apply Rejex. It will act as a semi-permanent wheel wax, and brake dust for the most part literally washes away with a squirt from the hose - not much of it sticks to begin with, and that which does washes away quite easily.
I'm a recent convert to Rejex (thanks Stream) and concour. It is quite amazing stuff and makes washing the alloy wheels very easy indeed. Highly recommended.

I also own 2 other Mercedes. They create more brake dust than my 530i

The MkIII designated Range Rover (2003-current) was designed ground-up by BMW.
There have been some changes, mostly for the better, since the sale to Ford, most notably the switch from the BMW V8 to the higher-powered Jaguar aluminum V8, but the next redesign, the first by Ford, is not due until 2009 or 2010.
I think Niktee may be right - isn't the new RR Sport actually built on the Discovery/LR3 platform?

I will take some pics tomorrow. It's dark right now. Yes the RRS is built on the LR3 platform. It looks very different though. It shares the ford engine with the regular range rover. It has a very similar design. The interior also mimics the range. The RRS does not resemble the LR3 much at all. It may share some of the same electronics and things. BTW: 1 1/2 weeks of ownership and not one glitch or freeze on the nav or radio.
The Range Rover Sport is built on the LR3 platform. However I don't own the Range Rover Sport, I own the Range Rover-- completely different vehicles with confusingly similar names. The "sport" is not a variant of the full-size Range Rover, it a totally different model. And it was designed and built after the Ford takeover.
