550i engine is a development of the 545i engine

And as said before the 545i engine came out in the 745i quite a while ago

Don't worry about the engines! Eventually we''ll all have the older engine version! Its when they change the lights, wheel styles and other minor body tweeks thats gonna make our cars look old!

I'd drive a 540, which was and still is a great car, all day long. The 545 is an almost 4000 pound luxury sedan that breaks 14 seconds in the standing quarter mile. The 550 will probably be a great car as well. I wish I had kept my 2001 Z3. All former and current BMWs (with the exception of the 318) are great cars that simply get more "classic" with age. There's not a dead duck in the lot.

I suppose the 540i is a E39? IT IS a great car.

The Z3 will be a classic, if it already isn't.

The E60 is a luxury car, and it is also subject to development, as all BMW cars are.

If BMW would not try to better their cars (and MCs) all the time, would they be the most successful car/mc/engine company in the world?

The suggestion is that a new E60 540 will be released to sit between the current 530 and new 550. E39 540 is indeed a great car.

I am absolutely furious that my brand new 545i is obsolete now. I will never buy another BMW again.

Just kidding. Hey, this 4.5L V8 is so sweet I could care less if they make changes.

To my knowledge BMW came out with 550 to make smaller gap between M5 and regular 5 series in performance. They made 550 for people that can't afford M5, but they can afford 550. To me 545i it's a great car, and I don't regret a bit for buying 545i.
