I would rather have a LCI 535d M-Sport Touring any day...

If swajames, had bought his '08 M5 last January when the Euro was ~1.58 to the dollar that would give him $85.3K. The MSRP was $83.9K and invoice was $77.1. Now and if he registered the car in Oregon or Alaska, which have 0% sales tax rates for autos, he could get him M-5.

That's a lot of 'ifs' - but it CAN be done.

Why Europeans and the rest of the world don't get e60 3 liter petrol twin-turbos? I bought my '08 530i officially in my country, but really very wanted twin-turbo 535i, and the dealership told it's only for US. Importing from US is an option, but local authorized bmw service told they won't maintain a warranty for this.
Good Q.

The US is a vaster market than the EU dito and the gasoline costs close to nothing in the US.

So the sales of 540i and 550i is very marginal in the EU.

We have the nice diesels and the fine 272 hp 530i.

The F10 will for sure have the 535i in it's model selection.
It may be called the 540i with the 326 hp/420 Nm TT L6 engine as in the F01.

I just bought a 2008 535xi with twin turbo engine here in the United States. I love it. Its really fast. 300 hp. With 3.0L engine and that fast, how can you go wrong? Its a great car.
