Why Europeans and the rest of the world don't get e60 3 liter petrol twin-turbos? I bought my '08 530i officially in my country, but really very wanted twin-turbo 535i, and the dealership told it's only for US. Importing from US is an option, but local authorized bmw service told they won't maintain a warranty for this.

Yes, why don't they?? the 535i would have been my ideal choice. In the end I had to make do with a lesser compromise and go for the 535D. Kinda regret getting a diesel now but will just live with my error. IMO, the 535i would be a great car to have here in UK.

cheers

Hey!

I'll trade you my 535i for your 535d!

j/k

I wish they would have the 535d here in Canada, I had ordered the X5d but got a deal on the 535i that I couldn't turn down.

They offer the 540i in Europe and not in the US. The TT in the US was first brought to the 3 series to compete with Infinity, Lexus, Acura, et al. Since the F10 is out sooner in Europe I'm guessing they decided not to offer it for the short period between the LCI E60 and the F10. In the US market BMW has a tradition of throwing in extra goodies the last one or two years of a model run as an incentive to buy the older model.

Yeah I would have one also. I have no regrets with my 535d though. Fast enough for anyone and get 28-29mpg mostly town stuff. But I do fancy the 535i turbo, loads you can do to them

The 535d is the same set up as an "i" right? Isn't it a TT L6 just with diesel? Because if it isn't, Top Gear did a test on the 535d, and it did 0-60 in 6.0 flat. So it'll only be .4 seconds slower than than the "i." I'm pretty sure it's a turbo.

And I've looked at the models on the German BMW site, and while they don't have the 535, they do have a lot of options. 523, 525, 530, 540, 550, etc. Plus, you can get the M-sport package. Still, it doesn't make sense why the N54 wasn't in Germany, since it won engine of the year three straight years now.

Seems it's a marketing logic for bmw. It also applies to their pricing strategy - Being BMW's strategic market US gets much better prices for cars, and what it loses it terms of margin in US, it recovers by selling more expensive to other regions. For example, I bought my '08 530i for Euro 54,000 (with discount, prior to customs clearance) in my country, whereas for this amount I could afford a new M5 in US :-(((

You can't buy a new M5 in the US for the equivalent of 54,000 Euro...

Also, the EU price you quote will presumably include VAT, whereas all US pricing is tax exclusive. Sales tax rates vary, but in California that adds over 9% to the tax exclusive cost of the car.
