My Ride: 2007 Alpine White 530i
Default Why am I doing this to myself?!

So, I own a 2007 530i that I absolutely love. It's such a great car and I've taken great care of it, but there are also some issues. It's at 80,000 miles now but most of the big maintenance has been done, including a full cooling system replacement (under warranty). I have always slightly regretted not gettinga V8 or AWD version, and I would prefer a black one over the white I have now (still looks good, but black is black!)... I just so happen to be looking for a car for my wife and saw this beauty there:

http://atcm.co/S2PVDP/1AE98C61

it has everything I could want in a 5 series (besides LED tails, but not a huge deal). I know their top salesman personally and he is a great guy, just bought a 2014 Ford Flex from him last Saturday. I saw this car on the way in, and it looks amazing... the only issue I can see is the mileage is quite high (Around 120k I believe). My dilemma is, should I even go look st this car? I don't know if my heart could take it if I see one with all the options I wished I got! At that mileage, in the ideal scenario, could it be a good trade (probably have to come out of pocket a little)? What are some things I should look for if it could be a good deal? I would appreciate any feedback, no matter how brutally honest!

I wouldn't even bother looking at it based on the asking price. They're 2k over what I think you should be paying. Have you searched your local craigslist?

these two seem to have the options you want, lower mileage, and a lower price.

Thank you both! The one I initially wanted to look at was just taken in on a deal and the shop is working on it, so I won't be able to see it until tonight or tomorrow night I took a look at the first one that BostonJon recommended, and it has been sittting for a long time... still an upgrade, but needs some work. However, this guy might be worth the upgrade... https://seattle.craigslist.org/see/ctd/6197162426.html

Any tips on convincing my wife that this is worth it? I was quoted around $7,500 on a trade in on my BMW, but could try to sell privately to get closer to $9k. Would be forever grateful if I could scoop this baby up!

I have narrowed it down to these 3....

2007 Bmw 5 Series 550i 4dr Sedan In Lynnwood WA - SEATTLE FINEST MOTORS
This one was pretty rough after sitting for awhile but I thinkafter a good detail it would be mostly sorted. I am trying to compare options as well... seems this one has the Sport Package and Cold Weather package, but I'm not sure if it has the M-Sport package and what is entailed specifically with that package...

This one looks super clean, gonna check it out tonight but it is a bit above my price range...looks to have absolutely every option I need!

Used 2007 BMW 550i For Sale | Lynnwood WA
Then this one also has everything I want, PLUS SPOLIERS, but haven't gotten a chance to take a look at the inside yet... doesn't appear to have the M-Sport package though, which is a bummer because the M style bumpers are super nice...

Any advice or suggestions? Thanks as always gents!

Personally, I wouldn't spend the kind of money you're looking at on such a similar year mileage car.

In TN we pay 9.75% sales tax on automobiles. If it's the same in SLC, do you really want basically the same car for the grandin taxes, documentation fee (dealer), and disparity sell and purchase?

Yes, it will be a fun V8, but I'd be looking at lower mileage newer ones at least. Try to get a nice deal on a 70K mile '10. I think that's the last year of the NA engine in the 550i, so the price should be reasonable. Just food for thought.

I've owned around 10 different cars this year alone, so I'm no stranger to changing cars.

535i is a great car and can be made faster than the 550i with a couple mods. Plus gets way better gas mileage.
