Default Who's purchased a new key NOT from the dealer?

Just wanted to know everyones experience with new keys (with the diamond head) not from the dealer....

My key fob stopped working, so I purchased a CR2025, cut the fob open, put the battery in and the fob now works!

BUT, when I try the rechargeable battery (CV2020 I believe) in, after driving around for about a half hour or so yesterday, the fob doesnt work..... I dont think the battery is being charged. Anyone else have this issue? I'm ok with using a regular battery since the replacement fob is designed to be opened and closed.

You have an E60 right?
Can you list up your year?
I have diamond keys on all 3 of my cars and I have gotten new "shells" with blank key and used the top part of shell and a new rechargeable battery and had no issues.
You will have to reprogram both keys after you swap insides or replace battery without a jumper.
However, if you have an E60 I would like to know how you've done so.
If you cut a blank blade I would like to know how you've done this.
Also, I would like to know how you were able to sync the chip inside the blank keyblade with your CAS module.

My car is a used one, came with only one key. If I can get a spare in a low price, I would.

Has anyone bought a used key from ebay like above^?
I assume you would still need the dealer to program it for comfort access etc?
I have my key but my fob is cracked and was wondering if this is the way to go.

Definately not, there is no way to get that key to work. Key and CAS, always from the dealer.

Becuase the CA key never needs to go into the slot these neoprene key covers work pretty well. It will hide any cracks in the case. I had to cut my key open to repair it, then hot glued it back together then used one of these to make it pretty again.

05'. Ebay blade along with a blank the locksmith had in stock were both roughly a milimeter wider than OEM, making it not possible for the blade to be copied properly. Apparently China didnt do their research when reproducing these key blanks.
