Can anyone help me identify whatever this white splatter is. After detailing my engine a few weeks back, I was shocked to find this white crap splattered all over my airbox. From what I can tell, it looks as if some type of liquid is hitting the belts and then splattering the liquid onto the airbox. I'm really at a loss because I cant seem to see any cracks or leaks in any of the hoses?? Anyone seen or heard of this???

Thanks[attachment=105420:Airbox.jpg][attachment=105419:Airbox2.jpg]

If I had a nickle for every time I caught Ron inside my engine bay, I could buy an M5.

It must be the residue from the product the detailing shop did for you and didn't clean up the inner parts thoroughly...

I would never let anyone, but me, touch my car. So nope, it wasn't the detailing shop. I'm thinking coolant or condensation from the compressor?

Looks like coolant to me, I had a 740 on which the plastic radiator neck decided to break on and spray coolant everywhere. Check the condition of your hoses and plastic joints, also check you levels. The source should be easy to spot if it is one of the connections, there will be alot of residue on it where it came from.

If you cant find the source and the levels are ok then clean it off and see if it reoccurs.

+1 Coolant spray dries into a white residue and it doesn't take much! Check levels and get a pressure test so that you don't get a warning when it's too late!

Another easy technique I've used to detect leaks, clean the area up, let it dry, then 'dust' the hoses, joints and other likely leak areas with talcum powder. Let the engine idle for a while and look for teltale signs of leakage - the white talc will track even the tiniest. Just don't race the engine or it'll blow off.
