hi all,
E60,2044,130,000km.Yesterday day when i was running the car, white smoke went out of the exhaust and a slight vibration was felt in the engine,at idle.i found out there was a 1.5 liters of engine oil are missing,no trace of leak underneath the engine.
Could it be the signs of an engine failue?where i should start my troubleshooting?should i replace the oil and filter first?
thanks

Not good

Check the coolant to see if its low and if there is any oil mixed in it.

White smoke is a sign that coolant is getting into the exhaust and that normally relates to a bad head gasket.

Being a qt. low on oil by itself isn't too much of a concern depending on how long its been since it was topped off. But if you are losing oil at a fast clip and/or its getting mixed with the coolant then you will need some big repairs.

The dealer is b/s'ing you. Coolant doesn't go outside the engine block unless via hoses to the radiator. The valve cover sits on top of the cylinder head - they only fluid you will find up there is oil. If coolant was up there too then you have a far more serious problem.

Well I won;t bet my paycheck on the dealer, but the car is leaking oil and that's the fact, so whether is the valve cover gask or not is for my Indi shop guy to find out. He cleaned the engine so he can see where the oil is coming from.. it was oil all over the place underneath..

The OEM part is 65$ and 80$ for labor, total of 145$.The disassembly and reassemble again for the fuel breathing valve replacement, took nearly 3 hours.I thought it was going to cost much more $$.
Good luck in ur car repair

Mine did the same thing. Turned out to be this little guy. Easy fix - takes 30 mins.
