Well, I just have to ask one more time. It seems like a bunch of threads lately about the new Twin Turbo-turning up in the E60 5er in short order. A lot of speculation about a twin-turbo-ed 535i.
And then we are seeing more talk about the possible addition of a twin turbo-V-8. Coming in at oh, somewhere around 408 horsepower. Does anyone recall the post on this forum last year I think, that said that BMW had filed for the rights to 550i and to 560i ???
This nomenclature has never been used to date. Anyone think it is still a possibility?
Makes me think about my dream E60 5er....with a 6 litre V-12 and a 6 speed DSG transmission.. YEAH.

I wonder why the need for TT only to get 400 hosses. The old V8 M5 had more than that and was naturally aspirated. Seems silly to go through the additional trouble of turbo charging an engine to get power out of it that should be easily attainable through ordinary means.

Silver bullet-yes I was kinda thinkin the same thing. I remember reading somewhere long ago that the old 540-I think it was E34-with the nickasil block was described by a BMW engineer as an executive car for those drivers who basically liked a very big engine in a medium sized sedan. Which is a very Detroit style/type of smaller sedan. The reason behind my thought of the 560-was the naturally aspirated sedan. Very much like the old Jaguar saloon-with the V-12 engine. It seems unusual that BMW has this tremendous 444 HP V-12, no turbos, lightweight aluminum block-direct injection -double vanos-the whole nine yards and doesn't put it in the E60. Not all of us want an M-5 (gas mileage, no auto tranny)-and many want more power-so they defect to Merc-E55. I just see the E60 560i as the answer, a great executive touring sedan-plenty of TORQUE-lots of power and the prestige of 12 cylinders. Without the turbo stuff.
I think it would be superb with the m-suspension-and an automatic tranny. Hey why not?

This Alpina is supercharged, but so is a E55.
I don't think the V12 can fit in the E60's engine bay w/o mods & new production tooling, so it's not economically viable for a car with very little demand.

I just remember driving a 750il and being stunned by the liquid wave of torque and the silky almost turbine like power deliver of the V-12. Naturally aspirated. I think there would be some demand for this sedan, though I could be wrong. Don't know enough about the V-12 in terms of size and fit.
Maybe I should just look into a pre-owned 760i as my next car!

ooooohhh . . . yeah, making me dream too. OK, but a twin-turbo V8 with 408 horses is just not enough. Speculation on . . . .
..or twin-turbo V10 with some 700 hp
