I'm used to looking up on the mirror (like all of my old vehicles) and being able to see if I'm going the right direction (n, e, s, w) I've given up searching and came to the conclusion that my BMW has no compass. What the hell is that? lol
Shouldn't it be a standard option? Maybe it is and my car is the loaner that forgot to get one installed. Anyone else have this problem?

I think it's one of those $750 upgrades you can buy from the dealer, I completely agree. When I lived in TO I really needed one because it was so flat , at least in Vancouver I can see the mountains as a northern point ............... move West young man !

To my knowledge the compass on the rear view mirror is not a standard option, if it is I screwed also. Upgrade to the nav option or aftermarket tom-tom. Or you can do what i do and just use google maps on your mobile (device: blackberry).

On long ocean voyages the ancient Hawaiians used to hang their nuts in the water to assist in navigating................ the pavements a little rough below an E60 though !................ someone should give it a try ...

Its crazy, because you can get it on a $45,000 - 3 Series, but not on a $55,000 - 5 Series.

thats actually how i've been finding my way around town! the hawaiians used to do that too? lolol. i cant believe it isn't a standard feature. most cars from 20-30k have a built in compass. and im the kind of person who needs one. i figured since i was going to have the basic n,w,e,s i wouldnt need the full out nav.. ah well ... ... ...

whoever does try it, make sure there's no ice on the pavement before nut placement, or at least have some warm water nearby...could get pretty painful without some...

Actually I can find that stupid compass in a $10,000 Yaris. not to mention a $45K BMW. You can find a lot of stuff on the Nissan Altima that should be standard... blah... oh wells.
