Where the heck does the air get sucked into the intake in an 530?

So I was just looking under my hood today at my intake I slapped on and looking at the stock tube where air enters into the airbox area-Where in gods name is that air coming from-I cannot follow it since it goes into the front area of the car and I cannot see where it is getting air from-Seems like it could have been placed in a better place as I do not see much opening for air to get in.'
Also on an off note-is this totally crazy or would a possible mod be cutting a space in the left front fender, which is right beneath the airbox and in my case the open intake-and create an "extra" place for air to be sucked in which woudl be coming from fresh outside air instead of under the engine full of heat

Probably up close behind the front bumper out of the turbulence. When I added the Dinan cold air intake to my 545, I could not find the intake of the Dinan. When I asked, that is the answer that they gave me.
But the real answer is, I don't know.
