I first saw it in a dealer and bought it the day after without hesitation..

Saw my first one at a dealer in the states summer 03. Then in November they had one parked in front of the hotel I stayed at in Dortmund - some launch publicity stuff. The hotel receipt was in a little 5 Series sleeve. I think I kept it.
I remember walking around the cars at the dealer and feeling like I wanted one, yet I couldn't get the part of my brain telling me that it wasn't my kind of car to agree with the more primal instinct. Two years later...

Saw same images as you along with any Internet or magazine spy shot that I could get my hands on. Since I ordered mine before the car was released in US, I had to do so with any pics that I could find. Got to admit, I wasn't all that smitten with new looks in spy shots, but once my car arrived, it was love at first sight.

Hmm.. I saw my first E60 at BMWNA headquarters I believe it was the Summer of 2003 during the annual BMW CCA meeting there. They had the actual car and showed it at the end of the meeting. You could go inside and mess with it. I believe it was the first time the E60 was shown to a public(semi-private I guess) group of people in the US. It was the only reason I went! 
Then I saw my second E60 in real life at the VDC in Port Jersey. It was the first batch of E60's to arrive in the USA in August 2003. For those who remember, one blue and one silver per dealer. Pic below for memories

Went to the dealer to look at the recently discontinued 3 series, but saw the 5 for the first time and liked it right away (the dual chrome tailpipes did it for me!)
