Wow, it was 14.5*C in Toronto today (58.1*F)!

I heard that it is not good to have snow tires when the temperature is above 50*F. Is that true?
If so, when do you guys plan on swapping the snows? My 545i has really missed her summer shoes!

Actually 50 degrees is a bit high for you folks in the far North .... As soon as I'm feelin like the daytime and nighttime temps will remain above 40 degrees F AND the chance of snow is "0" ... I'm putting on my summers tires too !

In northern climates, I'd wait til mid to late April. You wouldn't wamt to be on your summer shoes if it snows,

True that. But, are we expecting more major snow or just some flurries? My summers are good as long as the temperature doesn't drop lower than 41*F.

To all the others in Toronto and surrounding areas, when are you swapping your winter tires?

I am in Halifax and it has been above freezing for the past week or so and beautiful out. I am getting my summers put on Monday, if it snows, I just won't drive...simple as that.

As winter tyres is made of natural rubber they cannot take the heat as well as summer tyres, which are made on a different mixture. Over in Europe the saying is everything from 5C/41F (Scandinavia) to 7C/44F mainland Europe) when you're suppose to swap as the grip from winter tyres deteriorate quickly when it's too warm.

Swapped mine out this past weekend. Once temps get up to the mid 40's then I usually change em out.

It only takes about 25 minutes to put them back on if we get a big snow storm. I drove with my summer tires on (General Exclaim UHP's) through 3-4 inches of snow a couple years ago and was fine. Just watch the forecast and you'll be alright.
