yea its an auto tranny...hows the 6speed feel? i bet its a blast
Unless your car is still under warranty, I would NOT downshift to 1st especially in the automatic steptronic transmission... you're just asking for problems.

is ur AC also on? Whines like crazy when it's on. But when it's off, I dont hear much. And when music is on, I can barely notice it.

I downshift to 1st A LOT when I'm going at it. Just gotta make sure the stupid DSC is off or that's gonna hurt you. Or DSC and DTC off and super burnout...LOL. Double clutch and rev match into 1st and dont floor it or ur gonna burn ur tires. Ease on the throttle but quickly step on it. Then switch to second. It should give u a nice jump compared to the next next to you.

20mph is kinda fast to downshift into 1st, unless you need to engine-brake...
+1

I only downshift to 1st when it's <= 5mph, but only then if I know I'm coming to a complete stop. If I think I might not stop, I'd stay in second because anything above 5mph is more than enough to get away quickly in 2nd.

usually the lowest I downshift to is 2nd, stop the rest of the way using the brake. then before accelerating again I put it to first at the complete stop.

Or just leave the DSC and DTC on, save money on tyres and let those awesome BMW engineers give you the best start possible anyway

oo...hehe. he has a torque convertor tho! I've driven a step before. I did downshift to 1st and drive it like u stole it kinda thing. Well, that's with a loaner. The loaners never have enough power. Although one time there was a 2009 535i sport LOADED as a loaner but it was snowing like crazy so I didnt wanna risk it so I was stuck with a 528xi.

The DSC really doesn;t help except in the rain and when u lose control. It gives me about a 2 to 3 second lag. It feels like a lifetime when the other car is jumping ahead already. U see, I have to slip the clutch to avoid DSC going on. With DSC off, traction is still on, double clutch, rev match, sdrop the clutch, smash the throttle and tires chirp then ur off. I rarely do it anyway. It's neck breaking!

Rarely means I dont drop the clutch and floor it. But I do downshift to 1st quite a bit. Just ease on the throttle to avoid neck breaking.

You should NEVER downshift into 1st gear. It is not the proper use of the gear. All other gears can be used to slow the car down EXCEPT for 1st gear. Why would one do this anyway? It looks and sounds unbelievably stupid from the outside of the car.

I NEVER use 1st gear to shift down. When I'm stopped I"ll put it into 1st but not to slow down.
