I will stop caring when I am dead!! (maybe not even then!)
Yeah, we have to keep those caskets ding-free,

On a serious note, if you actually witness the ding event, can you ask the other person for his/her license and insurance info? I mean, can this be treated just like any other accident where the other person is at fault?

Happened 2 days after I got my X5. I was sitting in the X, waiting for my wife to come out of the store. A husband and wife pull up next to me in their Saturn. She doesn't wait for her husband, who is frantically running around the other side to open the door for her bc he see's me sitting there, and boom, her door goes right into my new car. My window was down too. The husband grabs his forehead in disbelief. Fortunately, there was no ding, but there were some light scratches. I took their insurance info, which they completely agreed to pay for. Lucky for them, I'm a good detailer and got my orbital out with various cutting pads and various polishes. I got it all out and never had to file a claim. They got lucky.

Irony....Just today a little girl opened the door of her dad's gold beater Camry into the passenger door of our X5! My wife did the right thing and got the guys info on the spot and I called him later to tell him I will try a local PDR guy and get the bill to him when it's done! So as for treating it just like any other accident, HELL YES!

NEVER EVER NO MATTER WHAT CAR IT IS, as long as it's MY CAR, door dings and scratches are never acceptable..

Now if I was driving a loaner or rental, then we're talking about a different story

Not even on the day I sell it could I even try to scratch my car. I sold a car the other day, and I felt like I couldn't let go of her. I saw my old RX300 around town once, didn't notice the plates right away but some "inner feeling" in me was telling me it was my old RX. As I went up to her, I noticed a S%*T-LOAD of dings, scratches and horrible, just HORRIBLE curb rashes (how is that even possible, it's an SUV with 16in rims!) and I was telling myself, "it cant be mine" but once I saw the plates (never changed, was still my original old one) I got goosebumps running all over me! I could never see any of my cars with dings or scratches.. It makes me sad or depressed if i ever see them all banged up (like I did when I saw my old RX300)
