My Ride: 2006 525XI, Jet black on Dakota beige. Premium and winter packages. I consider myself a purist and intend to keep my car absolutely stock and shiny.
2008 328I Convertible, Sapphire black on beige interior. Premium package, NAV, iPod adapter.
Retired: 2002 325I, Titanium silver on black leather. Premium package. Absolutely stock and proud of it.
I stop caring about door ding after my 4th year of ownership (which means my cars are about 6 year old by then) and I even start using the car for city driving etc., and by this time I've moved on to another car.

I am always checking my car for dings, so I care no matter how long I've owned it. It's not a matter of age for my cars it's that we put a lot of $$$$ and effort into our cars to maintain them and keep them looking as new as possible - so door dings just piss you off.

when you have so many that you don't notice the new ones anymore. At that point you are just waiting for a good day to go get your door refinished.

My Ride: 2008 Space Gray 550i, Light Poplar Wood, Anthracite Head Liner, Sport Package, Sport Automatic Transmission, Cold Weather Package, Front Ventilated Comfort Seats in Black Nasca Leather, NAV, HUD, Active Steering, Comfort Access, Night Vision, Lane Deviation Warning, Active Cruise Control, Heated Rear Seats, Folding Rear Seats, Power Shade w/ Rear Side-Shades, Rear Air Bags, Logic 7, HD Radio, Sirius Satellite Radio, iPod/USB Adapter. Car in BMW Body Shop, estimated completion 01/24/07.
I kept an '84 533i for 24 years and more than 200K miles (and my son is driving it now), and I always parked to avoid dings, etc., always garaged, and always covered at the airport garage. It remains in beautiful condition today.

door dings are bad and i'll always get pissed off about how incredibly stupid and inconsiderate some people can be.
now bumper dings im not as neurotic about...after my first one i learned its just not worth gettting all upset over them, they still suck, but living in NYC its a part of life. when i look at other cars' bumpers im actually proud that my black car has so few bumper dings as it does.

I'll never think it's okay to get a door ding. I always park away from minivans or any vehicle I see a child's car seat in. If I see kids getting out of a car and there's an empty spot next to them, I'll look else where. Funny thing is there always seems to be a car parked around me when I come back out. I typically park where I have one side protected by a curb or building and normally park between other premium cars that look like their owners loves cars as much I as I love mine.
