When to change to break?

Hello..
i bought my car about 3 month now.. so i do most of the mantianant already..
today the light come up that i need to change the break.. but when i see it it seems like new.. so is it me or bmw break are thinker than the usaul ?
any ideas? thanks..

I think they are trying to say is that his break maintenance iDrive warning light came on, bu they think the breaks are ok?
Maybe because they do their own maintenance?
That is just a guess
I'm going to say if that they did not do any work on the breaks they need work on them... not just from looking at them.

Titanium Silver Metallic, Black Dakota Leather, Dark Poplar Trim, Steptronic, Premium Package, Cold Weather Package, Bluetooth, Adaptive Control Xenons. 10/30/07 Added OEM 124s with 245/40/18 & 275/35/18 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires. So, you replaced the brake pads since you do the maintenance? Did you measure the thickness of the pads? Was the i-Drive reset to reflect the new brake install?
