Wheels rusted on hubs

My Ride: 530i 6 speed
So, yesterday I helped my neighbor to get his ASA wheels with the winter tires off his 10 months old E90. He had ordered the wheels (I have the same) from Tirerack last October.
I always had to bang my winter wheels a bit to get them off my E60, but his were rusted solid on there. We used almost an entire can of WD40, a hammer and our feet to get them off. Never seen anything like it. Everything inside the wheels where it sits on the center hub/bearing was rusted.

Likewise, seizeing to the hub is a common problem.Copper or brakegrease prevents this.

A thin smearing of copperslip on the hubs & wheels bolts is always a good idea. You've got to consider being able to remove a wheel using the supplied wheel brace (if you've non RFTs) in a puncture situation.

yeah , you learn the hard way.... i use copper paste too and keep a rubber mallet in the boot too just in case. And since you ask i often wear both belts and braces

We put copper grease on now.
I was just amazed by the amount of rust - for my 1978 Fiat, which rusted everywhere (I think even the seats and the plastic dashboard rusted...), it was never that hard to get the wheels off.

Call me crazy but has anyone else noticed a newer design hub that looks as if it's made from aluminum?

My hubs used to look like the ones pictured but I today I finally got around to taking off my snow tires and I noticed that not only are my hubs not rusted anymore, they look as if they're made of anodized aluminum. They were very shiny where the wheel meets the hub and the winter wheels literally popped right off!
I had new brakes and rotors put on in January so maybe that's when they installed the newer part?
Am I crazy or has anyone else noticed a difference??

I think the aluminum part I'm speaking of is part of the rotor. I'm not 100% sure. All I know is that they don't look like the painted steel they used to look like -- now they look like aluminum. There's even a part number engraved in it that I don't remember seeing before. Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to write down the number before mounting the summer wheels...
