My Ride: 2007 525i, mystic blue metallic, black leather interior, dark poplar wood trim, premium package, navigation, iPod, park distance control, voice activation, bluetooth.
Mods: Full M-Tech Kit, ACS Rep Rear Window Spoiler, ACS Rep Rear Deck Spoiler, ACS Rep Quad Diffuser, ACS Rep Exhaust Tips, Remus Duel Exhaust, De-badge, 20% Tint Front and Rear, Umnitza Predator Ice V2, HID fog lights, Clear Side Marker Light Bulbs (yellow when on), Dark Poplar Wood Shifter, Dark Poplar Wood e-Brake Handle, Dark Poplar Wood Steering Wheel Inserts, OEM Steel Pedals, OEM M Footrest, 19 inch OEM 121s (Summer), 18 inch 124s (Winter), Shadowline Window Trim, Blacked-out Kidney Grills
A buddy of mine asked me and I didn't know, so I thought I would throw this out to you guys. He has some staggered 124 style rims. He can get a good deal on some 245 width tires. Can he put 245s on his back rims?

I have the original staggered 124 wheels on my car. The tires are 245/40/18 in the front and 275/35/18 in the rear. You can also check on Tirerack's website for other sizes that would work.

The original 275 seem rather wide but they represents no problem in everyday use and provide traction in abundance. It also looks the part

BMW OEM 124 wheels are available in two widths for rear axle, 8x18 and 9x18. If the wheels are 9x18, the only accepted tire is 275-35-18 tire. 245-40-18 tire on that wheel is illegal and does affect in driving as well because the wide wheel would set the tire in wrong position.

this may affect and change the normal handling of the car.
Based on the 245/40/18 specs for the Dunlop SP Sport 01 DSST RunOnFlat
from Tirerack.com, the acceptable rim width range is 8"-9.5".
Personally, I would not do it only because it changes the overall rim diameter
for the rear tires in comparison with the front tires.

We found out that the 245 (all brands) will work for rim widths of 8 - 9.5 inches.

My Ride: My ex-ride: EU '08 LCI 520dA. Space Grey, Sport Seats in Black Leather/Fabric Anthracite, Sport Steering Wheel, A/C with Extended Features, Hi-Fi Speakers, Cup Holders, Cruise with Braking function, Folding Rear Seats, Xenons, Park Distance Control.
The 245's are OK (see pic).
OEM 8x17 ET 20 for 245/45R17 tires.
Also 225/50 tires will do, but then with "rim defense" tires.

I must disagree. I just put 4 ea 245 40r 18's dunlop winter sport 3D's on my staggered 124 wheels. There is no problem doing this. I called several tire shops before i did it and the 9 inch wheel is way with in the range for that tire. It drives fine.

I did the same, all 245's with my new Micheline Alpine sport's Just make sure that you that they put the 9" rims on the back. If you have them balanced, make sure you mention the rim width so they don't rotated the tires and end up 1 or both rear rims up front.
