My E60 wears Blizzak WS studless snow and ice tires in the winter. They are great in snow and ice. Sensible driving is still required of course, as one cannot overcome the laws of physics. Here is my vehicle with Blizzaks at the Tail of the Dragon (Great Smoky Mountains) late winter last year. I chose that time of the year for very light traffic. It was still snowing at various elevations.

That stretch of mountain road is pretty crowded the rest of the year.

what set up do you have? OEM size wheel and tires all around, or mix matched sizes?

BTW, I presume you know that snows should be fit at all 4 corners!

And BTW if you shop on line at TireRack or other stores click thru the link in my signature for best deals and rebates.

you mentioned," presume you know that snows should be fit at all 4 corners! " - did not know , please fill me in, thanks!

Some drivers put winter tires only on the driving axle, eg. rear for RWD. This is very dangerous as it makes handling very unpredictable.

+1 You end up with acceleration grip at the rear but no steering control and far less braking ability. 4 snow tires is the ONLY way to go.

Dragonfx, you need to start researching the topic if you're so uninformed. Here's a link to TireRack's testing of the lastest Snow & Ice tires. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y.jsp?ttid=135 There's also a good online video showing what happens when you run winter tires only on the rear, but I can't seem to find it.
