I have a 2007 530Xit with most of the good options, but not the ambient lighting. It has cold, sport, leather, nav, pdc, sport seats, 18" 124's, Sirius, and the great 6MT. The one thing I miss as compared to my '08 328 is the added interior lighting, and I don't exactly know just what that would include back then? I don't care about the exterior lighting in door handles, or puddle lights. Can anyone spell out what was aded in interior - doors/door pockets, footwells, ???. Separately, can those items be acquired and installed now without a big disassembly and recoding? For some reason, the car was ordered with leather and sport pack/multi-contour seats, but not the full premium pack for another $600. I don't really miss the electric hatch, would have liked the dimming outside mirrors, but the interior lights are missed most, although it is pretty insignificant to the overall package.

i googled around a bit and found this for a 2008 which i have with the premium package ... "BMW Ambiance Lighting: LED lights in roof bathe console area in soft orange light, helping occupants find controls at night; enhanced lighting features included in Premium Package" this may not apply to your '07 and probably does not (fully) answer your inquiry...

Thanks for looking into this. I do have the overhead console lights, which are very nice. In my e93, there are added lights that run along top of the door panels and throw soft light down to the controls, handle, etc. I think the '08 facelift changed the whole door panel design in the e60's, so I'm, not at all sure what if any added door panel lighting might have been in the old package. It looks as if the door panel lighting in the e93 is a separate plastic strip that could be added to a car that came without it, and hoping that there was something similar for the old e60's, although I can't quite envision just what it might look like.

I have a 2006 with the premium package and ambient light package. Off the top of my head, hears a list:

Puddle lamps on all 4 doors. I think standard is just the front doors.
Interior door handle lights. These can be retrofitted. Look in the DIY or mods section
Autodimming mirrors (side and rear mirrors)
