Hey guys I always wondered what this is next to the tachometer. Can anyone answer?

 

don't know for sure but it looks like a shift indicator. if it is ill bet it comes on either when you hit yellow or red line in RPM's. net time you jump on the freeway run it into the red when accelerating, it'll probably blink or stay on when your max torque has been met, telling you its time to shift up in your peripheral vision, so you don't have to look down. my motorcycle has something similar, then again it could be something like a low fuel indicator, just a guess on my part.

I couldn't find it in my manual.

 

When you insert the and turn to position 2 (not starting the engine), all indicators will light up briefly. Does that thing also light up during that cycle?

 

Seems like it's M specific, what model car do you have?

 

I believe its the tamper light. If you try to change your mileage or replace with a different cluster, it will light up.
