Thumbs up

I've heard some rumours that the E60 has some kind of heating element technology that gives extremely quick heat upon starting the car. Is this true? When I was first told about this, my thoughts were of the fan heaters which plug into the wall that give instant heat. However, I'm not sure if this is what the e60 has.

Can anyone confirm if the car has this or not? If not then does it have something else that allows it to give very quick heat output? I'm in the UK if the feature is region specific.

I dunno but my E60 spits out heat like within 100 feet after I start up the car.... its excellent for winters. None of my other cars can spit out heat that fast.

Take a look at the following document in the technical gallery -- it should tell you everything you want to know about the climate control system...

Now Eric, what kind of winter do you get in So Cal?!?

Not that it's much colder here in New Orleans, but on the occasional day when the temp really drops (like in to the 30's), it can take a while, like 5 minutes, for warm air to start blowing. And with an 8 minutes commute to the office, I'm glad I got the heated front seats because they warm up much faster than the heater...

No but seriously... compared to other cars the E60 spits out heat the fastest! Literally within several seconds of starting up.

Thanks Rudy, that document answered most of my questions. The first page talks about an electric auxiliary heater which is like an electric fan heater. However, a few more questions that the document doesn't answer:

1. Will this feature be present on a UK spec 2005 e60?
2. Why is this feature only present on diesels? Is heating the cabin a bonus feature and the main reason is something to do with the diesel fuel?

If you want to find your cars interior heated when opening the door, your option is to order the auxiliary heater.

I don't believe the UK spec has an option for an auxiliary heater. However, I'm still trying to confirm whether this is a standard feature on the UK spec cars, or an optional extra that is not available for UK spec cars.

The UK E60 doesnt have the option of the auxilary heater as its not deemed cold enough here to need it. I think the heating element you are on about though is the electric heating element(at least i think it was electric). That was fitted to the old deisel equiped cars as they cast block took along time to warm up it would supplement the standard heating until the car was up to temp. I know its not fitted to the LCI cars but not sure if the pre LCI aluminium engined cars had it.

A bit brisk up there in the wilds of the Home Counties is it?

My 535d is an 05 and it doesn't have an aux heater or an electric heater for the block. On a chilly morning it can take about a mile to start blowing heat. Hope that helps.
