Hey guys, I'm getting new Michelin PS2 tires for my 550 which are running toyo T1R's. I have a 550 with the 166 rims.

When I bought the car t had 245/35/19 front and 285/30/19 rears so these are on order at Costco for $1700!!

But it looks like with some research most site list the M5 rims as 255/40/19 front and 285/35/19 and some e60 member say recommended rear is 275/30/19.

I was considering the Goodyear F1 but they don't come in 285/30/19 only 285/35/19.

I'm wondering which ones I should get. I do like the look of the low and wide tires. But I want a quiet ride and a nice ride. May consider switching to the

Thoughts? What's everyone running on 19" rims? How's the ride and look?

Here's a great calculator
http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp

Thanks!

For the E60 with 166 M rims 245/35/19 front and 285/30/19 rear are OK
but OEM rears are 275/30/19.

PS2's will cost you a bit more, but they will last for longer also, in normal driving that is.

19" low profile tires are not cheap and will not last for more than 20k - 30k m max!

The 255/40/19 fronts and 285/35/19 rears are only for the M5 cars. The M5 has a wider fender which can accomodates 255.
For non M5 cars, you should get 245/35/19 and 275/30/19 to make sure it doesn't scrape. The 40 and 35 aspect ratio on the M5 is thicker and it may have a problem if you have sport package or lowered suspension. I have heard of people have 285/30/19, some says it fits but some say it scrape? The safest bet is 275/30/19 for rears.

If you don't want to shell out $1700 for new tires, try the General Exclaim UHP, will cost you less than half and gives you 80-90% of the driving experience. I just change out the fronts as a matter of fact, cost me $360 for a set of fronts (installed out the door with tax). For the rears it's a little more and probably a little over $400. The rear lasted 25k miles, but the fronts is 44k miles (and it's not quite bald yet). Do a search on General UHP, or read over the comments on tirerack. I buy the tires from America's tires and have great experience, they PM tirerack besides the tax portion, but they charged a little less for installation, and with the pro-rated warranty it ends up even cheaper than tirerack.

Personally I am cheap and don't want to spend like that much on tires, given the General is very decent and from what I heard better treadwear than Michelin PS2. Of course if money is no subject, then PS2 seems like the top choice. Also make sure you put back the TPMS sensors back to the 166 rims. The ride and comfort of the General is very good, no complaint from me.

My friend has a 285/30/20 and it scrapes a little. Basically this is the same overall diameter as the 285/35/19, not sure if it's width or height that makes it scrape though.

wow! 305.. that must look pretty good..

It currently already runs 285/30/19 without rubbing. I was just wondering what the benefit of running a smaller size or i guess the disadvantage of running the 285/30/19.

Is there a better size for better ride but same great look?

If I were you, I'd stick with either the 275/30 or 285/30/19. It's not about look as much as it is keeping the rear setup close to the front setup as far as the rolling diameter. A 275/30/19 rear is the closest match to a 245/35/19 front as far as this ratio is concerned, so that's the main reason it's the OEM recommended size. A 285/30 gives you a slightly larger overall diameter in the back (due to taller sidewall) compared to the front, which could throw off the speedo and the look by just a tiny bit.

The other thing to remember is that not all tires are made in all sizes....so price will also factor in here with the 285's.

I also hear General Exclaims are very good. C's Bimmer has had them and recommends.
