So I have a weird question. I've noticed that when I start my car or when idle at a stoplight my 550i idles at about 600-800 RPM. How about yours? The only reason I ask is that sitting at a stop light and with my foot on the brake is like holding a racehorse at bay . Its a little weird for me coming from a car with a manual transmission or my wife's SUV. I assume this is normal for a sport performance car, but I thought I'd ask.

Ah good point, I think every time I've looked my AC was on. I'll check it with AC off. It's weird having such a powerful car! This car has literally twice the HP as my old one!

Mine idles at 500 without AC on and about 700 with AC on. And yeah, its a powerful car! It drives really well and is good-looking too!! I have driven a 335i (two years), 535i for 8 months and now a 550i for a month and a half. I LOVED the feel and power of the 335i!That little beast was fast! The 550i feels heavy, less agile, but very well planted and once rolling, is very fast as well, especially past 80 and with minimal bodyroll. The 535i is the best of both worlds though, its fast and is more comfortable and a little more maneuverable than the 550i. I love the exhaust note on the 550i though! it sounds soooo goood! Lol this sounds like a magazine car comparison, doesn't it? Anyways, enjoy your car!

This is my idle both with and without AC turned on. 2007 530i. Strange thing is the idle in our new 750Li drops to 500 when AC is turned off, but mine does not change with regard to AC usage

The compressor pump probably wasn't engaged or the load was light enough that the ecu didn't increase the idle.

500 w/ the AC off, 700 w/ it on which @ 1st I thought was weird b/c consensus thought says cars idle @ abt 7-800 RPMs depending on whether its AT or MT
