Default What is this plug from?

Tonight I took off the lower aluminum reinforcement plate under the front subframe for the first time and found this plug sitting on it. Anyone know where it goes? Looks like a plug for a drain hole or something. Also found a clip for the air filter box but that one was easy to take care of.

2009 535xi 6mt wagon.

Which aluminum plate? The stiffener plate under the subframe?

Yes. A previous owner would have dropped it and it fell on the aluminum plate under the engine. Took it off to change front differential fluid.

Bump. I guess no one has seen one of these before? I’ll try on an E90 forum in case it’s a part that’s N54 specific.

It is on my automatic tranny by the flywheel. It allows access to the bolts that hold the torque converter to the flywheel. On a MT car I haven't seen this cover before, but it may be for the N54's MT.

Oh right, most cars have a plug on top of the flywheel to check if it is at TDC. I’ll look to see if that’s the case.

No, not on top. Next to the oil pan, I think on the passenger side.

Oh, okay. I noticed an opening at the bottom of the bell housing where I could see the flywheel so that must be for TDC monitoring, but it was a square hole. I didn't look on the sides but next time it's up on ramps I'll check. Thank you.

The c shaped deflector on the plug is oriented towards the ground when you reinstall.

I looked up the par number and according to this diagram (part 9) it looks like you certainly are correct as it shows it next to the oil pan. Thanks.
