Type of driving is measured by amount of fuel used. BMW maintenance is based on fuel consumed.

My dealer advised the first change should be at 7500 miles. First oil change he feels is most important, in case ther might be any metal particles or whatever from the new motor. From that point go according to displayed info.

Enjoy your ride, clear your mind, and let the computer talks to you. When your E60 needs something, she will let you know. .

She is pretty good communiting her needs thru her computer.

ANDY545,
I think it must be country dependent. We have owned a number of BMW's over the years and service intervals have always been around 11000km (6600 miles) give or take a 1000km depending on driving conditions.
Also keep in mind that all BMW's sold here include a 5 year 100000km Motorplan that covers all servicing including the oil changes.
One would think that if BMW are paying for these oil changes that they would be less than more frequent.
Anyway, I am not complaining I am happy that I am getting new oil and filter every 11000km.

It just begs the question, why if the same oil is being used do we get oil changes every 6600 miles and the rest of the world at nearly double that distance?

Could it be that if BMW, in terms of the Motorplan, has to pay for all maintenance for 5yrs/100000km that they reckon more frequent oil changes wil lead to less expensive problems?

Makes you think, doesn't it?

We did the first oil change early due to the fact that there could be some engine/grease residue in the oil as a result of the break-in period.

Our second and quite recent change was done in order to be prepared for winter and a long period of colder startups.

All over, it seems that intervals for oil change are at about 25 000 km for our car.
