Brought my car in for the service the first time and this is what the service rep printed out from reading my key on a reader. He said there is actually more information stored in it, this is just what they let the customer see:

Interesting, I thought the key only had a code that was linked to key-specific values stored in the car's memory. I wonder if they can tell when a specific driver has been naughty, e.g. speeding, redlining it frequently.

Some infos are indeed stored in the key.
But all those comfort settings (A/C, Sound, Seat position, etc.) are stored in the car.

The keys also registers the mileage incase you bring in the car and the number somehow changed. They will void the warranty on the spot.

As a matter of fact the mileage is stored in many different modules of the car.
Manipulating it is almost impossible. Too many different modules would need to be manipulated.

Both of my master keys behave differently.
One will enable display names of tuned radio stations RDS while the other does not. odd...???

Seat position and mirror settings are remembered with each individual key.

That is strange.

Have you tried to store the radio stations again when the key which currently doesn't show the names is in ignition?
Have you checked if RDS is activated with that key?

If RDS is active and you have tried to store the stations again and it still doesn't work, you should contact the dealer.

Mine behave differently too. After my key died (another thread) and I started using the second master key, my door locks no longer default to locked. The car used to lock down as soon as I got rolling. It no longer does so.

The information being passed is pretty ingenious IMO. Rather than hook the car up to diagnostics, the SA can just plug the key into a reader (he has it anyway when he fills out your paperwork) and voila - he knows how it's doing.
