One thing I'll say it that although the moving white bars relate to temperature and decrease as the engine gets up to normal operating temperature, I don't think it's accurate to equate it to the missing coolant temperature gauge. If anything, the white bars are probably more tied to oil temperature than coolant temperature, wouldn't you think?

with all the warnings this car has, i am pretty sure the idrive will warn you.
