When I lived in Germany, I was hellbent on an Audi A6 4.2 Quattro. But the dealer I spoke to was blowing smoke about the price, so I started looking at BMW instead.

My Ride: 2010 VW Passat Wagon 2.0l Tsi
Grey/Grey Budapest 18"
Lost to HPFP issues:
08 535i sport pkg
Lost to Dreaded E61 Sun roof leaks:
07 E61 530Xi
![Default](https://5series.net/forums/images/icons/icon1.gif)
Here is the list I was considering before the current wagon
X5 3.0 & 3.0d ( none available at time on the lots and dealers would not order an 2010)
X6 3.5 ( way to expensive HPFP issues)
535XIT ( HPFP issues)
328XIT
Ford Raptor ( If I could have found one locally this is what I would have been driving)
Mini Cooper Clubman JCW
As you can see I needed some thing big ... I got two labs now and thinking of having kids soon.
Car wise when I got the 535I
135
335 I E90/92
535
535XIT ( this was high on the wife's list, the $67K price was not)
X5 3.0
M3 sedan
Audi S4
a43.2
TT 3.2
A6
MB C 350
VW Passat 3.8
Toureg
MKV R32
MKV Rabbit/golf
Range rover LR2
It came down to the 335 535 and LR2
Wife already had a Audi a4 3.2 , and she would not let me get the M3 or S4 with the V8's. ( at the time Gas was over $4.20 a gallon and both had great lease and finance deals and the M3 sedans were not moving at all and that is what I really wanted) Looking back at it the M3 or the S4 is what I should have got instead of the problem prone 535I, and gas dropped down to $2 by the winter.
I loved the 535I for the space and power , the motor was was sold me on it , and it also was the reason I might NEVER buy another Turbo powered BMW. BMW Passing the buck on the N54 is just shameful. VW and Audi don't seem to have many if any wide spread Forced induction issues, and BMW dropping the Wagons ( in North America) for Busted @$$ed Cross overs ( yes I seen the 550gt and it is better looking in public but still Hideously U-G-L-Y, the X6 is much easier to live with in my eyes) that cost way to much may drive me over to the Stuttgart side of things for a E wagon ( yep expensive but it is a big wagon and the MB R sold 40 units last year so they are keeping the wagon).

Was replacing an E34 5-series.
Considered a Porsche 911, a 7-series and an Audi A8 (all used/pre-owned to one degree or another), as well as an E39 M5.
Considered an E92-M3 sedan but couldn't swallow paying for something that new or the thoughts of post-warranty maintenance costs 4-years down the road..

The logical move from my C320 4Matic was to the E350 4Matic, as I wanted a larger car, but also wanted something different and nicer on the eyes.
I looked at the G37x but it's too girly IMO...
If I hadn't of found my 530xi, I might have ended up with the new Ford Tarus SHO.
350HP/350TQ Twin Turbo V6... Think about what an ECU tune could do to that! But... The suspension and handling are supposedly not great at all, and it's a FORD and I was having a hard time swallowing that after a Benz.
