My Ride: 2008 550I LOADED, all options except HUD and NV
Injection, as in Fuel Injection. BMW has used that designation for over 20 years, originally it differentiated carbureated cars from FI ones.
If you look on your door decal and you have an automatic transmission (or steptronic) it will say 545iA or 550iA - the "A" is for Automatic

Not so fast, I am pretty sure i is for iDrive. Even 20+ years ago when they told us i is for injection. Didn't buy it then, dont buy it now. Pretty sure they were just buying time until they perfect the true "i" technology now seen in the dash of every 5 series bimmer...YEAH! (if you're still reading, this is gonna get worse). In fact, iDrive has been such a phenon that Apple stole this concept and made it more portable and sold millions under new branding: iPod, iTouch......yeah this is bad. Moderator please delete post, yeah the helmet stays on. LOL

I thought it stood for "team", but apparently, there's no i in team, so there goes that theory.
As for dropping the i, that might make sense in the US, but where we have diesels also, it differentiates the petrol/gas engines from the "d" diesels too.
