I see you UK guys writing about a SE version all the time.
The official BMW site does not have a SE version.
Is it a Sedan or ...?

The UK only designation SE stands for Special Equipment. It was a marketing gimmick introduced by BMW in the 1970's to differentiate different trim levels on their cars when companies like Ford used model badges such as L, GL, GLX, Sport etc to denote what trim level you had bought.
The SE spec originally included things like alloy wheels, metallic paint, radio cassette player and front fog lights. Over the years BMW has steadily devalued the level of extra equipment on SE spec models. The E60 is the first 5 series in the UK not to be offered in any guise other than SE at launch so there was no "base" model and no ES model. If you look at the UK model range for the 1 series you will find base model, then ES, then SE and now the Sport model (M sport variant).
I'll put my anorak away now
