Hi, I've done my homework and looked up all the codes and abbreviations that BMW uses. this forum has been of great help, thanks to all who contributed to compiling the list and material.
What i still can't figure out is what on earth does the "A" stand for in 525iA?
would someone please shed some light?

It stands for anonymous. When a BMW is finished on the assembly line a Quality inspector signs off on the vehicle. His signature is electronically lasered into the area under the battery. If the person does not believe the car meets all standards he refuses to sign off on it. So the A indicated anonymous ( no signature) and the vehicle is sold as a "second" or irregular. That saving should be passed on the the buyer.
