i love my car, I find myself comparing it to other cars constantly if Im getting a ride from someone. Ive been in a 08 Acura TL, 2010 maxima, and a 2010 Camry mind you my car is a 04 with sport suspension and it still feels tighter and quieter than any of those cars...Just amazing! People just dont understand until you actually drive a 5 series you really havent driven. How could you ever go back to something like a Maxima?

a bit unfair comparison IMO, you're talking about a V-8 with sports versus those high rev 6 cylinders where the max torque kicks in after 4k rpm but I do have to agree with you though, I've driven many different 4 doors including luxurious v-8 but my 5 is the best handling overall so far. But then again I still have not driven the high end ones so I wouldn't know but next to my old Boxster S (yes to some it's not a real Porsche), this is the 2nd best handling car I've experienced.

I'd rather go to a Porsche 911.

My Ride: 2008 BMW 550i Carbon Black
Default

i'm not going to lie, before i got my first BMW, i thought they were waaaay over-rated. i was all about 'Merican V8s, baby. Then i got to Germany. I got my Impala SS to 161mph and the tranny died the next day. I bought a 98 540i Touring (sport suspension) for $5k just as a beater to get around, and that changed my entire life. After the joy of driving that car, I hated the feel and the cheapness of my Impala, and the total lack of stability in corners and at high speed. I've driven SRT8s, Audis, Mercedes, and others on the Autobahn, and nothing so far has come close to the pure joy that I still get today from driving my BMW.

My Ride: 2004 525i 1997 318ti - Sold 1990 535i - Gone

In between selling my 318ti and getting my 525i, I drove my mom's 2006 e500 for a couple weeks. You would think that the $71k benz would be a nicer ride than a base 5 series, but it wasn't. I mean lets be honest, it's nicer than my dad's Ford Focus but nothing really compares to the tight, agile feeling that the 5er gives. Coming from my small ti I thought I would lose some handling moving up to the comparatively boat-like body of the e60 but no. If this is what a 525i is like, I can't imagine what the added power of a 545i or 550i brings to the experience.

I have a TL and a E60 not to mention E90 in the family. The E90 is more fun to drive then the E60 but I think thats because of the weight.....either way my E60 and the E90 are the best cars I have ever driven. So much fun! The TL is alright to drive its no BMW but it still is a decent car to drive. Driving Lexus/Camry sucks...I almost fall asleep.

I guess it depends on what you prefer in a car.

IMO the ONLY thing that separates a BMW from eveyone other car is handling. Luxury, speed and looks are too common among the group and boil down to individual taste.

Im tempted to say handling makes the car.....without that tight feeling and road response the BMW wouldnt be what it is. So pretty much whatever engine you have you still get that great feeling when you drive....The added power of the bigger engines is the icing on the cake. The suspension is so good that you need that added power to take it to the limit. And just when you think you might lose it the car surprises you and just straightens itself out.......If you are a good driver this car can make you great

Fully agree!

BMW is an awesome handling car, I will continue to buy BMW for a long time. Though I have thought of Audi there for a while, I love the A5/S5 and S4's!!

I have driven the brand 2011 Acura TL (as loaner while servicing my MDX) and you cannot compare it to the BMW feel. Even the doors on my 545 feel way more solid than an MDX. Test drove several Mercs, just didn't care for them.

I rented an 09 Audi A6 during an overseas trip, fun to drive and pretty tight, but wouldn't stand to the 545. I guess you've got to compare an Audi S6 to the 545/550. Anyone for thoughts on the S4 or S6 Audis?
