I have a 05 545i and I got the same message increased emmission message with a check engine light. took it to the dealership and it was found to the the Thermostat.Parts $90 and labor/diagnosis about $200 so total almost $300. If yoy can DIY you'll save some$$$

I've done some research there are some good DIY nd doesnt look that hard but i prefer to have it done by a specialist to make sure everything perfect
