what are the differences in 2007 E60 Idrives and 2008 E60 Idrives?

By output, do you mean the i-menu? You don't speecify at what point you are pressing the iDrive knob.
if you press the i-drive control knob of 2008 5er then the service info pops on the screen. On 2008 7er ' s I-drive with the old haptic feedback, it just turns the screen off.
I was wondering what the response would be when you press the i-drive knob of 2007 5 series which is pre-lci.

If you push the iDrive (not i-drive) controller on a 2008 5er you get the so-called "i" menu which is a series of menus for settings. You don't get service info by doing this. Pushing the iDrive controller on a 2007 5er will yield the same result.

The 7er Series uses a completely different iDrive system (see link to my article for details on that as well).

thanks for the info. It does show the 'i' menu and the one of the tabs happens to be the service info.
