Yeah, so I got my oil changed and had no desire to pay to have someone insert my air filter for me when I could do it myself. When I did so this afternoon I came to find out there the locks which sit next to the engine and bumper are just not there. The 2 main clamps are all that were holding the filter housing lid on. It works OK and I did not notice it before.

What is the effect of this though, am I loosing air pressure or is this just letting some air out after exiting the engine and really does not matter?

I would open it and see if they are hanging along side the box or not!

On my old 530i, they were hard to remove, and when I did remove them, they fell down into spaces where I could not reach them.
Just have the parts group order some for you. They are only $1 each.
It is just a manufacturer's defect.

On my new 550i, they are very hard to lose.

I think air goes in the air filter box not out. I would get replacements from your dealer. I have a couple missing off of mine too, but it seems to be on pretty tight already, so I haven't bothered getting those replacements.

I changed my filter and the clamp towards the radiator fell off and went missing. I haven't thought it bad enough to get another .

Same as me when I swapped in my K&N, lol. I double checked though, and with the two main clamps the air box is secure enough. I even had my wife give it some throttle to see if it moved with air flow, and it didn't.

I would order the clamps if it would bother you not to have them. But honestly, I don't think it matters.
